Industrialization had a profound impact on World War I. The advent of new technology and technological processes led to the creation of many new weapons. Previously, armies had to rely on swords and poorly targeting muskets. Armies marched directly at each other. The new weapons that were made possible by Industrialization allowed for more subtle (and wearying) warfare. The increased technology and the fact that countries were stockpiling said technology led to a war of attrition (a prolonged war where both sides attempt to wear down the other). Troops now fought from trenches in an attempt to escape the terrifying technology of World War I.
